[link]On 26 September 2009 Typhoon Ketsana (Ondoy) devastated the Philippine capital Manila and neighboring provinces. In only 9 hours it rained as much as usually for a whole month. More than 80% of the city were under water. It was the worst tropical storm in the last 40 years in the Philippines. More than 100 people died, more than 450,000 people are homeless according to government data. More than 115,000 people are currently living in temporary shelters.
The Philippine Secretary for Defence Gilbert Teodoro called on the international community for emergency assistance. Urgent needs are: food aid, trinking water, medicine for diarrhea as well as blankets and clothing. Health authorities warn of an outbreak of dengue fever.
We
